Date: 2022-05-06 12:17 am (UTC)[Joshua glances back up, raising an eyebrow. It isn't hard to figure out, really. There's only one reason why Sparkling would be looking at him like that.]
Oh, this? It's Beat. He's still a little socially deprived after being lost in Lager Woods for two weeks, so we've been taking turns carrying him around with us. It seems to help if one of us is nearby at all times, but like this, he's still a little... well. I'm not sure if feral is quite the word for it.
[He opens his pocket and leans down, so Sparkling can see inside. Sure enough, there's a small blond squirrel, blissfully munching away at the grape and ignoring all else.]

Sparkling leans forward so he can see, of course, his ears nearly flattened to the top of his head with alarm.]
Is he alright? I mean, he looks okay, but...you know what I mean!

Date: 2022-05-07 04:53 pm (UTC)[Thanks to his efforts, anyway. The Fog dug her fingers in deep, and even with his Imprinting, it's still just like scraping the surface layer off at times. It's a constant battle.
He sticks his finger down in the pocket, scratching Beat between the ears as he talks.]
Physically, he's fine. Mentally, he was subjected to the Fog's influence the whole time. That forest seems to be under her control - I went in with a Fog follower, and while he was entirely unaffected, I kept seeing and hearing things that weren't there. Compound what I experienced in an hour to what Beat must have gone through for that entire time, and it's understandable that it's messed him up a bit.

Date: 2022-05-07 08:35 pm (UTC)He sighs, pushing the little bowl of grapes a bit closer to the two just in case Beat decides he wants another.]
I'm glad to hear he's safe now, at least. I had no idea the forest could do that to you.
[Which is...kindof fucking scary since he'd been planning on maybe trying to learn how to fly out there, away from the dangers of getting stepped on in the streets of town. He might be rethinking that idea now.]

Date: 2022-05-09 06:22 pm (UTC)I had no idea, either. Go figure, even the woods aren't safe for monsters.
[Which is funny, since creepy woods are a place you would expect to see them. Guess it's only safe for mommy dearest's favored children. The rest of them are stuck being the middle child.]

Date: 2022-05-09 07:41 pm (UTC)The warning is appreciated, at least...the forest back home was always pretty dangerous to wander into alone, but we did have regular excursions into it. It makes me glad Vampire isn't likely to want to do any of that on his own.
[Now if GingerBrave or any of the more go-get-em cookies were here, Sparkling is pretty sure he'd need to invest in a baby harness.]
I'm glad to see you doing better as well, as any rate. A cast doesn't really suit you.

Date: 2022-05-15 01:11 am (UTC)You know, I'd never have thought you hadn't mixed one of these before coming here. Good work.
[He's content to sip on it for a moment as Sparkling continues speaking, occasionally tossing a glance down at his pocket. Beat seems to be calm, for the moment. The grapes had been a good peace offering.
The comment makes him laugh, though, and he sets down the glass for just a moment.]
Believe me, after being dead for so long, being in a situation like that was strange indeed. I don't have any plans on being back in that situation again any time soon.

Date: 2022-05-16 11:14 pm (UTC)It's my pleasure. Let me know if you'd like another, or something different.
[It's slow enough tonight that he can focus his attention mostly on Joshua, with just the occasional shift to greet and serve a customer wandering in and out here and there. In the meantime, he'll reach behind the counter for a clean rag to do some cleaning with while they talk.]
Good, good. I'll be holding you to that. Humans, monsters...their proclivity for getting hurt so easily worries me, sometimes. Cookies are brittle and can crack, but it's a much quicker fix than what I've experienced here.
